How to Get There: Take Line 6 to get to Itaewon station and take Exit 1. Walk forward along the main strip until you reach the slight incline to your right. It’s right at the top of the hill here, almost directly next to Coreanos. Super easy to find. You can see it from the street level. There are also a few other locations around the city, so if you stumble upon one stop in and check it out, it will be well worth it!

Service and Atmosphere: For the majority of the time we were here, there was one guy working the floor. The space isn’t overly huge but there were plenty of people seated, as it was happy hour on Saturday night. Props to the dude for making it work. Everything arrived promptly and we were all pretty impressed with the whole process. Thirsty Monk was decorated pretty modestly with beer bottles and glass lining the windows and was a very comfortable place to be. Plenty of seating and a great view if you want to sit at the counter facing out. Easy place to hang out with some quality beers and great food. New Kanye spitting from the speakers doesn’t hurt either (as I polarize the readership). DOPE.

Menu: Jesus this thing is extensive. You could probably ask the chef to make your grandmother’s souvlaki and they would make it happen for you. You can literally get anything here. I’m talking BURGERS, I’m talking PIZZA, I’m talking STEAK, I’m talking TACOS, I’m talking MASSAGES, I’m talking RIVERBOAT GAMBLING TRIPS. Getting ahead of myself yet again, but you get the point. They serve a lot of shit. They also have plenty of draught and bottled craft beers as well as 30% off select draughts for Happy Hour before 7pm!

Spicy Buffalo Wings (16,000 KRW): A dozen decent wings with blue cheese, carrots, and celery. These were not the hottest wings on earth, but they were definitely passable we enjoyed them quite a bit. I would definitely get them again.



Fish and Chips (21,000 KRW): This was the highlight of the meal right here. A quality portion of a full filet of fish, the breading was perfectly utilized. As we know, this can often be an issue with fish and chips, where the breading outweighs the fish itself. Not the case here. No sir. Solid tartar sauce as well. This dish was also served with excellent shoe-string seasoned french fries. Too good.

Pulled Pork Sandwich (16,000 KRW):  Prepared and served on a baguette with chili, coleslaw, and an egg, this sandwich is one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The meat was tender, juicy, succulent, savoury and sensual. Huge portions again! You for sure won’t be hungry after a meal here. It is worth noting that two other friends of ours got the Classic Burger and loved that as well. I was too distracted by my own ambitions to grab a photo. Apologies.

Beer! (12,000 KRW each): We arrived in time for happy hour, so we got three 1000ml boots for 12,000 each! A great deal, especially considering other draught pints cost that much normally. Happy hour doesn’t cover all the beers they have available, but they have the German brews on lockdown. We ordered the Hefeweissbier Dunkel, the standard Hefeweissbier, and the Kristallweissbier, all of which were incredible. Relatively standard, but delicious nonetheless, the Dunkel was a dark lager with subtle malty tones and was my personal favorite, the Hefeweissbier was a solid wheat beer and fairly light, and the Kristallweissbier was the lightest of the three. You can definitely taste the fruity undertones on this one. They are shown below ordered beginning with the closest to you.

Who SHOULD visit Thirsty Monks: Anyone looking for a great meal with some beers around payday. Even if you don’t stay to eat, grab a boot during happy hour before you head out elsewhere!

Who SHOULD NOT visit Thirsty Monks: If you’re super tight on the budget then this might not be the spot, but honestly it’s worth the investment.
